xmartO Wire-Free Solar Security Camera: Complete Step-by-Step Setup Guide

CamTechGuide · Camera Setup & Troubleshooting

The xmartO Wire-Free Solar Security Camera packs 4MP 2K QHD resolution, PTZ AI tracking, dual-band WiFi 6, and an 8700mAh battery with all-weather solar charging into a fully cordless outdoor camera. Because it runs entirely on solar and battery power with no wired connections, getting the setup sequence right the first time saves you a repeat trip up the ladder. Here’s the full process from unboxing to a working live feed.

What You’ll Need

  • xmartO camera unit and solar panel (from the box)
  • Smartphone with the Wall Pixel app installed
  • A 2.4GHz WiFi network (the camera does not pair on 5GHz)
  • Mounting screws and a screwdriver or drill
  • USB cable for initial charging (included)

Step 1: Charge Before You Mount

1

Fully charge the camera

Connect the camera to power using the included USB cable and let it charge completely before installation. A full charge from empty typically takes around 4-6 hours. Charging first avoids a low-battery camera shutting down before the solar panel has a chance to build up charge.

Step 2: Install the Wall Pixel App

2

Download and open Wall Pixel

Search for “Wall Pixel” on the App Store or Google Play and install it. This is the companion app xmartO uses for its solar and battery camera lineup. Open the app and create an account if this is your first camera setup.

Step 3: Add the Camera in the App

3

Tap “+” to add a new device

From the home screen, tap the + icon to add a camera, then select “Solar/Battery Camera” as the device type. The app will walk you through scanning a QR code on the camera or entering a pairing code, followed by WiFi credentials.

Important: Make sure your router’s WiFi is broadcasting on the 2.4GHz band during setup. This camera pairs on 2.4GHz only, even though it supports WiFi 6 dual-band once connected. If your router uses a single combined SSID, temporarily check the connected band or split your WiFi network before pairing.

Step 4: Connect to Your Home WiFi

4

Enter your WiFi password when prompted

The app will search for the camera’s signal and prompt you to enter your home WiFi password. Keep the phone close to the camera during this step for a reliable connection, then wait for the app to confirm the camera is online.

Step 5: Choose a Mounting Location

5

Pick a spot with strong WiFi signal and good coverage

Before drilling anything, do a test run: hold the camera at the intended spot and check the WiFi signal strength shown in the app. Aim for a location that covers your entrance, driveway, or key area while staying within reasonable range of your router.

Step 6: Mount the Solar Panel

6

Position the panel for maximum sun exposure

Mount the solar panel where it gets direct sunlight for most of the day, ideally facing south if you’re in the northern hemisphere (which includes India). Secure the mounting bracket with the provided screws, then connect the panel to the camera using the included cable and adjust the tilt angle for your location’s latitude.

Step 7: Configure Detection and Recording

7

Set motion zones and PTZ AI tracking

Inside the app’s camera settings, set up your detection zones so the camera focuses on relevant areas and ignores things like passing traffic or swaying trees. Enable PTZ AI tracking if you want the camera to automatically follow detected people or vehicles. By default the camera records only on motion to preserve battery; this is the recommended mode for solar-powered use.

Tip: If you want true 24/7 continuous recording instead of motion-triggered clips, you can keep the camera on constant USB power and switch the record mode to Continuous inside the app. Running this way on solar/battery alone will drain the camera much faster.

Common Setup Issues

IssueLikely Cause & Fix
Camera won’t pairConfirm you’re connecting to a 2.4GHz network, not 5GHz. Move the phone closer to the camera during pairing.
Battery drains quicklyEnsure the camera was fully charged before mounting and that it’s set to Event/Motion recording, not Continuous, while running on solar.
Weak or dropped connectionCheck signal strength in the app before final mounting; relocate closer to the router or add a WiFi extender if needed.
Solar panel not charging cameraVerify the panel faces maximum sun exposure and the connector cable is fully seated at both ends.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add this camera to an existing xmartO NVR?

Yes. WiFi 6 xmartO solar cameras can be paired to a compatible xmartO WiFi NVR to manage and record multiple cameras from one system, in addition to standalone app viewing.

Does the camera work without a monthly subscription?

Yes, this model is built for local storage (SD card or NVR) with no monthly fees required for basic recording and app viewing.

How long does the battery last on solar power alone?

With the solar panel properly positioned and the camera in motion-triggered recording mode, the battery is designed to stay topped up in most weather conditions, since the panel replenishes charge daily even on cloudy days.
